Metal and young people

I have recently rediscovered my love of heavy metal. It’s amazing what a few beers; an iPod on some speakers and a great mate can do for you on a night in. There is so much great stuff from a bit of nice rock to full on thrash metal. One of my main rediscoveries was that of the band Deep Purple that my friend claimed to me was really musicians band and he’s very right to be honest. Deep purple seem to do little for the average Joe Bloggs on the street who happens to be going through a heavy metal phase but give to a musician and they get overly excited by the kind of stuff that Ritchie Blackmoore and Jon Lord came up with during their solos.

Inspiring young people with what we can consider to be amazingly produced music can be hard nowadays. I believe there should be more of a requirement in our UK teaching jobs to get kids to listen to the likes of classic rock stars to open up their minds to new and amazing talents that came before some of the tripe they listen to these days.

A good piece of music is something that stands the test of time. Justin Bieber or anyone on X Factor isn’t going to be around in ten years time but when passion ands talent have been put into creating something that will touch and inspire someone time and time again it becomes true genius. Lets bow down to the ability and talent of the rock star.
